The mottoes are corrupt versions of the Achilleid of Statius. From right off the top, clockwise: Chiron and Achilles, Thetys takes the sleeping Achilles away, Achilles entrusted to Lycomedes, Ulysses finds Achilles (2 scenes), Achilles marries Deidamia; centre: Achilles leaves Scyros
