RELIGIOUS ICONOGRAPHY
Saints / Cycles / Manuscripts and Prints of the Legenda Aurea / Manuscripts / French translation of Jean de Vignay / Paris, Bibliothèque nationale de France, Fr. 241 (attributed to Richard of Montbaston, 1348) / fol. 1-99
Further details
This scene is probably connected to the story of the Roman prefect trying to seduce the maids (and, confused by God, embraces pans and pots insteads), and later having them martyred. It could likewise show how Anastasia and two hundred virgins are banished to the Palmarian islands.
